What is Snake Yoga ?


  • Yoga is facing so many animal trends like Dog yoga,Cat yoga,Bunny Yoga,Horse Yoga,Alpaca yoga retreat and the famous Goat yoga class, with them joining this new fearful reptile yoga partner of Snake Yoga.
  • As you have figured out by now that snake yoga is just simply doing yoga with the scary snakes.
  • Even some people may taught about the Cobra yoga pose (Bhujangasana) when you first heard about the snake yoga.
  • You can try snake yoga unless you have ophidiophobia (extreme fear of snakes).

History of Snake Mythology :



  • Snakes where considered to be the most mystical and mysterious animal in the history of world in each and every culture as well as religions.
  • In most of cultures around the world considered the snakes as the symbol of healing,fertility and transformation.
  • Even some cultures thought the snakes are the symbol of immortality and eternity.
  • In Greek culture Gordons snake women like the Medusa are worshipped.
  • In Egyptian myth serpent Aapep (symbol of choas).
  • In Mesopotamia myth messenger god of Ištaran.

Hindu Mythology of Snakes :


  • The word "Naga" means snake or serpent in Sanskrit specifically representing king cobra.
  • Representation of snakes in Hinduism,Buddhism and Jainism , male snakes are "Naga" Female Snakes are "Nagini".
  • Vasuki is the nagaraja means he is the king of snakes in the Hindu mythology, vasuki is the snake coiling in the neck of God shiva.

Historical Connection between Snakes and Yoga :

  • In the Ancient yoga practice the yoga is mentioned in Kundalini concept on Upanishads (book of vedas) , in that the kundalini power is mentioned as a symbolism with coiled snake .
  • The kundalini awakening yoga method is made famous by the Sahaja yoga style meditation.

How to perform Snake Yoga ?


  • The founder of snake yoga is Hari Bhajan Kaur aka Kwali Kumara, she call herself as Mad Snake Lady.
  • Kwali Kumara was trained instructor in Kundalini yoga and she loves snakes so she begin her yoga class with snake.
  • As she says the snakes can make fearless , that crippling fear is the cause for all the mental harm and illness.

Bhagavadgita Reference to Snake :


  • In Bhagavadgita holy book of hindu, Lord Krishna say "Among the serpents I am Ananta" , in that the word ananta represents the infinite endless divine godly snake with its endless coils floating in the waters of creation (where the god vishnu rest on).

  • The island of Bali of Indonesia, where the Bali Heritage Reflexology Spa , they uses snake therapy by normal massage session followed by a placing python snakes on the body of customers.
  • According to that massage spa by placing the customers body covered with snakes will make them fearful that will release adrenaline inside their body .
  • A Study shows that the increase in adrenaline production can increase metabolic processes, with production of lactic acid release from muscle tissues and the breakdown of lipids (Fats).
